Charles Oakley Sues Vegas Resort

Ex NBA tough guy and current Charlotte Bobcats assistant Charles Oakley, is suing a Las Vegas resort after suffering a beat down back in May 2010. Oakley described it as a "gang style beatdown" by security at the Aria hotel-casino at MGM Resorts International's CityCenter complex.

Obviously this was far from the Tyrone Hill incident.

Oakley was an invited guest for a May 28 event in Aria's VIP pool area. When he left and attempted to come back security refused Oakley re-entry.

After a "verbal altercation" with officers, Oakley attempted to return to his room when he was "assaulted" by them in a secluded area of the resort, the lawsuit alleges. The complaint says that the officers wrestled him to the ground and punched and handcuffed him.

Message to the security department of said resort: It's not that serious.

Oakley was taken to the hospital with injuries to his neck, back, and wrist and says that the injuries "may be permanent and disabling."

I wasn't there and didn't know what words were exchanged, but this could've been handled a whole lot better than what is being alleged. If what Oakley says is true, the Oak Man stands to receive a nice check for the damages.

 


  

Former NHL Player, Matthew Barnaby, Arrested After Domestic Violence Incident

Former Buffalo Sabres forward, Matthew Barnaby,  is scheduled to be arraigned this morning in Amherst Town Court on multiple charges stemming from a domestic violence incident this evening in Getzville, Amherst Police said.

Barnaby was charged by Amherst Police with criminal mischief, criminal trespass, harassment, criminal contempt and aggravated harassment. The domestic incident involved two victims. Something must have been terribly wrong for Barnaby to go off the deep end. This is sad for all involved, especially the victims who had to go through this ordeal. I'm not taking sides it's just that nobody wins in these kind of situations.

The incident happened around 6:15 pm at a Getzville home and Barnaby was arrested a short time later. He was expected to spend the night in the Amherst Town Jail.

Barnaby is currently an analyst for TSN and ESPN. I wonder how the worldwide leader is going to handle this. Will they fire him ala Harold Reynolds or will they give him time off to get this cleared up like they did with Jalen Rose. I'm betting on the former more than the latter.

Scot Pollard Calls Phil Jackson Overrated

It didn't take long for the Phil Jackson haters to come out after the Los Angeles Lakers were ousted by the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA playoffs. Scot Pollard, formerly of the Sacramento Kings and other NBA squads, voiced his opinion on the all time championship coach.

“Oh man. I just think he’s one of the most overrated coaches of our time. He’s only had the greatest players of our era on his teams. Put him in charge of the Sacramento Kings this year, and I don’t mean to offend Sacramento fans, but put him on a team with no Hall-Of-Famers on it at least no one that has established themselves as a Hall-Of-Famer already, put him as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers right now and let’s see how he does next year with no Hall-Of-Famers on the team. That’s all I’m saying.



I respect his championships, I respect his ability to get egos in line and get them in the same direction, but I just think he’s overrated because he’s only had the greatest players of our generation.


All I’m saying is I would like to see Phil Jackson coach a team that doesn’t belong in the playoffs. … I think if you put him in charge of a team without at least one or two future Hall-Of-Famers on it and I’m not sure he’s going to get you a championship ring. I doubt that.”

I see where Pollard is coming from on this subject and has a good argument. When Michael Jordan had his two year hiatus, the Chicago Bulls were competitive but not a true championship contender. On the other hand they weren't thought of as a true contender until Jackson got to Chicago. You can also argue that    

Carlos Boozer Throws The First Stone

Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Chicago Bulls forward Carlos Boozer should pay attention to that old adage.

Boozer, who has been called out for his subpar playoff performance has started the war of words between the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls. In a tweet to Shandel Richardson from the Sun Sentinel , Boozer said the Heat had two great players. Boozer doesn't see Miami's big three as a big three. He clearly sees it as a big two and a third wheel.

Now Bosh wasn't having the greatest playoff against Boston, but stepped it up when he had to. Bosh will have to continue his high level of play if Miami is to beat Chicago. On the other hand Boozer will have to be big in this series, especially since he let off the first verbal shot in the series.

Once again Charles Barkley takes the quote of the week award. Honestly he could probably take it for teh year.

Ndamukong Suh To Participate In Gumball 3000

When I hear of the Gumball 3000 or Gumball rally, I usually think of something along the lines of "The Cannonball Run". Detroit Lions defensive tackle, Ndamukong Suh will be participating in the Gumball 3000 to promote a new video game by Ubisoft called "Driver." 

I for one would not lik Suh to participate in such a race, even though it's all in fun. That's just my biased opinion as a Lions fan. On the other side of the coin he does have to make a living since he's not being paid due to the NFL lockout.

Suh is looking forward to the race.

"Being able to drive at a high speed and not get in trouble for it is great. When it comes to driving on the street, if the speed limit is 65, I might go 73, but in this race I'm going to go as fast as I can while at the same time being safe. My health and my co-pilot's health is the most important thing to me. One of my good friends who plays for the Colts is going to be in there with me, Cody Glenn, so we're going to go out there and enjoy it and split the driving duty."  

Happy trails to those two as they embark on a new challenge. Just keep it safe.

No Bull

Still a Cincinnati Bengal at the moment, wide receiver Chad Ochocinco is backing up his Twitter bravado. Ochocinco has accepted an invtiation from Professional Bull Riders chief operating officer Sean Gleason.

Ochocinco will pocket $10,000 if he rides a bull, if he stays on for eight seconds he gets a ne Ford F-150 and gets to rename the bull. That's a tall order for Ochocinco who also practiced a little soccer Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City.

This is definitely a task that's easier said than done, but if anyone is up to the challenge it's Ochocinco. He has probably been the busiest, most interesting player during the NFL lockout.
