Lane Kiffin Open To A College Version Of Hard Knocks

USC head coach Lane Kiffin hasn't said or done too many smart things since he's become a head coach of anywhere he's been. Until he came up with the thought of having a college football version of the HBO series 'Hard Knocks'.

Kiffen says it's a random thought, but deep down he would love the light to shine on the Trojans once again. I don't really think you want that to happen, since the Trojans are on probation and they are probably still employing some of the same recruiting tactics as before. Kiffin wouldn't want the cameras rolling when some random player asks why the mortgage payment was missed or something like that.

I think it would be good to see an unrated version of the college perspective, although I don't think some schools would want their dirty dealings out in the open.

I would like to see this...great idea Lane. Although I would not necessarily want to see USC featured I think it would be a great show to watch.

Just what the world needs. Another uninformed poser, masquerading as a 'journalist.'

Reggie was already at USC for two years before looking to get his palms greased. Not even the NCAA claimed the infractions had anything to do with recruiting.

You seem like a bright fella. Ever thought of opening a hot dog stand?

Already own one big fella. And I'm not trying to be a journalist. I'm just going by what I've heard personally from a few players from that have landed at USC from my home state. I wouldn't just put that out there for "shock" journalism.

If they told you Reggie's violations involved recruiting, why not do your due diligence and check the record? The NCAA report is a public document that spells out the entire incident, and doesn't mention one thing about recruiting.

If these players were telling you about benefits USC allegedly offered them, why bring USC's probation and mortgage payments into the story, as if those two were tied together?

When you put something out there in public, you have a responsibility to back it up with fact. Instead, you appear content to hide behind 'a couple of nameless players from your home state' as proof that USC recruits dirty.

Remind me of the last time USC received an NCAA violation for their recruiting tactics?

If the NCAA didn't find one after a four-year investigation, it's not likely that it's the problem you made it out to be.

What college team are you a fan of, Chris?

I never mentioned the Bush situation in the post first of all. Secondly you don't have to be nailed for recruiting violations to be considered what you would call a 'dirty' recruiter. Think about it. Do you think the Miami Hurricanes recruit sirty and give benefits to players to attend their school. Some get caught some don't. Just tell me where i mentioned anything about Reggie Bush's situation. I never tied the two together like you did. I understand where you're coming from, I just never mentioned the Bush situation. I just questioned the tactics that I've heard about. Personally I don't think Bush should've given back the Heisman.

It was clearly implied. When you bring up the USC probation, and follow it up with cracks about mortgage payments, it's obvious what the inference was.

"Trojans are on probation and they are probably still employing some of the same recruiting tactics as before."

You seem to be saying that after mentioning the probation, you followed that comment up with a totally unrelated issue - recruiting - in the same sentence.

"Secondly you don't have to be nailed for recruiting violations to be considered what you would call a 'dirty' recruiter"

Who gets to play judge, jury, and executioner then? Or, is it fair game to take the Ready - Fire _ Aim approach to gossip and innuendo?

"Do you think the Miami Hurricanes recruit sirty and give benefits to players to attend their school."

Silly me, I would prefer considering Miami innocent until proven guilty of giving benefits to players. It's the American way, even though you don't appear to subscribe to that way of thinking in Detroit.

"I just questioned the tactics that I've heard about"

You never questioned anything. You flat out made an allegation about USC's recruiting tactics, without supporting it with fact.

Sheesh, you never even implied this was secondhand information you were passing along.

It's not asking too much to be more responsible with your words. If not, then be prepared to defend them after getting called out by someone armed with more facts than you brought to the article.

Excuse me for being cynical and believing that lots of college programs are guilty of some kind of shady recruiting. You must think the old Southwest Conference did not exist.

Or every program is squeaky clean.

True enough, it's innocent until proven guilty, but there's a lot of shady business in college athletics. I'm not going to put on blinders and act like it doesn't exist. And please stop trying to break down everything and read between the lines. I could've said that about any program in america.

Don't try to blast me for being cynical. Show me a squeaky clean college program and an honest politician and I'll shut up. It's an opinion. No one is trying to be judge, jury and executioner. Also I'm not going to put names out there to make anyone happy.

No one gives out all the information in these cases. Only what a school gets caught for. In the NCAA's case sometimes that is enough.
